Hidden Leaks: Signs You Need a Plumber

A dripping tap announces itself. The leaks that damage property are the ones you cannot see: a slow weep inside a wall, under a slab, or behind a water heater, quietly wetting plaster and structure for months.

What to look for

A water bill that climbs with no change in usage. The sound of running water when every fixture is off. Warm patches on a floor. Paint that bubbles or a skirting board that swells. Musty smell in a cupboard. A meter dial that keeps moving after you close the main valve.

How we find them

We isolate sections of the system and pressure-test them, then use acoustic listening equipment and thermal imaging to pinpoint the source without opening every wall. Once located, most leaks are a small, targeted repair — the expensive part is the damage they cause while undetected.

Prevention

Service the water heater and pressure-reducing valve annually, replace flexible connector hoses every five years, and fit a leak-detection shut-off valve on the main supply for unoccupied or holiday homes.
