Modern Gypsum Ceiling Trends 2026

Gypsum ceilings in Riyadh have moved decisively away from ornate borders and towards clean, architectural geometry. The most requested look in 2024 is a floating plane: a flat ceiling dropped a few centimetres from the slab, wrapped in a continuous cove that hides an LED strip. The result is soft, indirect light that makes a room feel taller and calmer.

Recessed lighting as architecture

Designers are treating light as a building material. Instead of scattering downlights, we plan linear channels, wall-wash slots, and hidden perimeter coves during the framing stage. Because the wiring and the gypsum profile are coordinated before boarding, the finished ceiling has no visible fixtures — just light appearing from crisp shadow gaps.

Sculptural feature panels

For living rooms and majlis areas, a single sculptural element carries the design: a curved bulkhead, a fluted panel, or a coffered island above the seating. These are cut from CAD drawings so the curves are exact and repeatable, then finished seamlessly with multiple coats of joint compound.

Finish matters more than pattern

The trend is quiet, so imperfections show. A level-5 finish — skim-coated and sanded across the entire surface — is now standard for anything that catches raking light. It is the difference between a ceiling that looks built and one that looks moulded.
